5 Different Videography Styles for your Wedding

Videography Styles for Wedding

Wedding videography is a documentation of the beautiful ceremonies, memories, etc of a wedding function in the form of a video to make them everlasting. People change, situations change and a lot more things change with time but memories do not! Wedding videography is one of the ways to reconnect with them anytime. Photographs and videos stay the same forever and this is why you should surely have them on the most important day of your life to preserve the memories forever.

There are many types of wedding videography styles, so you get various options to choose from. Some of them are listed below-

1) Journalistic Videography Style

Journalistic Video style is also known as ‘documentary’ or ‘reportage’. In this style, the videographer is supposed to capture the event from the morning till the ceremonies continue. Usually, linear fashion editing is done which gives you the output containing the preparations from the morning till the end of ceremonies.

Sometimes, the video also has the interviews of bride, groom, family and friends in which all of them tell about the experiences and incidents that they have with the couple and give them good wishes for the future which stimulates your emotions even more and builds up a stronger emotional connection. The editor might also use these sound bytes throughout the video to tell a story to the viewers. Apart from the interviews, the videographers do not have the time for interaction. He has to keep working constantly and record everything so that he does not miss any moment.

If simplicity and messages from your family and friends is a priority for you then you should surely go for Journalistic Videography style for your wedding day.

2) Cinematic Videography Style

A cinematic style video focuses more on the emotions and drama that happens throughout the day and is edited more like a film. It may have more music, special effects like slow motion and montages. The work of a camera might involve more movement, usage of camera stabilisation systems such as Steadicam and many more. The colour and contrast of the video may be highlighted to give the video more of a film-like or cinematic feel.

The videographer who is supposed to shoot in a cinematic style has to interact with guests and the couple to brief them about what kind of a shot he wants. He has to direct the shots he wants to take and not just shoot whatever is happening like a videographer shooting for a journalistic video. Cinematic videos tend to have a duration varying from 60 minutes to 90 minutes.
To be honest, cinematic and journalistic videos have some techniques and elements in common which are used by the videographers in both of them.

3) Short form Videography Style

Short form video has emerged as increasingly popular video style in which you are offered a highly edited version of your wedding day consisting all the moments and ceremonies highlighted in about 15 to 30 minutes. Journalistic or cinematic, a short form video may contain any of the similar styles, though the cinematic style is a better option for it because it is difficult to add up all the moments and also the interviews or the speeches in a video (like it happens in journalistic style) which has short duration of time.

On the other hand, cinematic style includes only the most important moments of the day which makes it easy to edit the video in less duration. Some videographers offering a short form video may provide you with an extended version of the day separately. Ask your videographer if you want both but you might have to pay them extra.

4) Traditional Videography Style

Traditional style is the oldest for video making in the market. It includes minimal editing which makes it have a longer duration as compared to other video styles. Traditional videos can have a duration of two to three hours. It includes most of the moments from the wedding put as it is in the video i.e. they are not trimmed down or mix-matched a lot. It does not involve much of camera movement.

A camera along with a tripod is placed in front of the area to be recorded and work of the videographer is just to press the record button to start or stop the recording. Videographers offering traditional video style are a bit difficult to find because this style restricts the camera person as it has a very little room for art which makes it difficult for the person to give an artistic side to the story and show their talent.

A traditional style video is a simple and straight video of the entire day. If you desire to have a more modern outlook then you should not go for this style, choosing any of the other styles will be best for you.

5) Marryoke Videography Style

Marryoke is the style in which you can have your wedding video made up in a music video style. This is the kind of style in which the bride, the groom, their families, their friends and sometimes even all the guests attending the wedding mime or act to a song at different points throughout the whole day and this is then edited in the form of a music video.

These kinds of videos can be hilarious to watch and to film and have to be directed properly by the videographer to get the perfect shots. The Mannequin Challenge has also emerged as a trending style of marryoke video.

If you are willing to remember your wedding day as it actually happened then you should not choose this style.

If you did not find any of these styles completely suitable, you can always mix and match the elements of different styles to create up a style of your own that suits your requirement the best!
